Empirical Knowledge

This was a good day, or one of the days we
thought as good,

smitten by your startling body, as the watchful sun
does his daily routine of staring and sunning and burning.

As the water in your shower loved itself and yourself,
and did a dance of cleanliness and pleasure,

as the fresh smell of body devoid of the challenges,
microbe challenges, the pursuit by indignant germs,

as the sound of cascading and pouring
filled the mind of the house and, most notably,
the house of the mind,

we knew this was a good day. Sounds and smells and sights
have assured us of that. The definitive, empirical tones of this day,
a testament to the idealism of our inner suns, and inner sins,
the warmth and hedonism they generate inside.
