Science

My questions are based on questions of the day,
dissolving the denuded fact that everything is based on reality,
and nothing goes the way of sense; the tree as wooded logic.
It lives in a plentiful forest. The desolate stumps? the corpses of ringed beauty.

My questions are futile in the air,
destroying memory like a sacked city--Paris--WW11,
bombs going off, blasting holes before the sky can run
or residents can multiply. Or Jim Jones's Jonestown:
bodies stretched out, dark, lifeless, unforgiving of the science
of the fatal soft drink.

These are my questions--wondering why a gray mist sadness
is as confounding as that tiny light in the sky
which originates millions of light years away--technically the past.
